Tom Anderson Video and DVD.

This excellent video honouring the memory of local fiddler Tammy Anderson, was partly recorded during a concert held at the Eshaness Community Centre with an invited audience and was filmed by Malcolm Younger in May 2004. Included is archive footage of Tammy having a tune with friends and pupils, Catriona Macdonald, Aly Bain, Charlie Simpson, Heritage Players, Halliget, Vikki Johnson and the Northmavine Accordion and Fiddle Club.

During the video some shots of the dramatic cliff scenery of this area is used, making a wonderful backdrop while you appreciate this superb musical addition to your collection.

In November 2005 a review of this DVD was printed in Box and Fiddle Magazine, this is a publication produced by the National Association of Accordion and Fiddle Clubs and circulates among the Accordion and Fiddle clubs of Scotland and to music enthusiasts throughout the world. The 'See Hear' review section of this magazine is written by Judith Linton, herself a talented fiddler.

This new release on DVD (Digital Viewing Disc) produced by Shetland Television, charts the life of the late Shetland fiddler Tom Anderson. The DVD includes interviews with fellow musicians and island folk who knew Tom over the years. Since the sixties, Tom had been on a quest to bring the old Shetland fiddle style and music back, as it had almost died out in those days because the musicians preferred to play the Scottish tunes. Over the years Tom gathered endless reels of recordings from the old fiddlers on the Shetland style, as he felt that if he did not do something about it, there would be none of the old musicians left to keep it going. Tom then set about teaching this fiddle styles to countless youngsters which spanned forty odd years. He researched the music and now he has left a legacy to Shetland, which is in the safe hands of the players continuing his efforts. I had the pleasure in the early eighties of spending two weeks with Tom in Shetland and he certainly had a passion for getting the style right. He did not suffer fools, as I found out, and he was a hard task master but I learned a lot from him. This is an excellent DVD with some fine views, some great stories from the contributors, and also some great old footage of Tom playing fiddle with his pupils and at concerts.
